FONTS
In Thrillers fonts are used for multiple purposes. Font can show character personalities, mystery and has many connotations. Some fonts can hint about the narrative The two different fonts used are Serif and san Serif, these are explained below. Some fonts are more expressive than others, choosing the wrong font can completely change the personality of the film. Thrillers are leaning more towards San Serif as they are being used more in movies whereas Serif is used more professional products such as google.
The Thriller fonts can connote hides messages for example the colour of the font can help represent an emotion - red font conveys idea of danger. Font can also help the audience establish the sub-genre of the Thriller are some sub-genres such as Horror or Sci-fi thrillers have a more disorientated type of font which is reinforcing to the audience that the film is going to carry this theme throughout the rest of the film. Fonts in the films of films are normally scene as very formal because the typography the audience can infer the film is going to have the narrative or theme that will be continued through.
SERIF
Serif font are considered to be decorative, the appearance of the font is used to serve a high or important purpose. Serif have historically been credited with increasing creadability and reading speed, as it helps the eye move faster a lot the screen, Serif are the small line attached to letters. The main use for this font is for mystery, as they can portray the idea of cliff-hangers. As time has gone one, they have started to add smaller strokes in more regular, artful ways so now they are an expected part of the letters. Serif fonts can look authoritative, professional and suggest the weight of history experience. Serif typefaces include Times New Roman as they give off the typewriter style. For example Google as it is a respectable font. Serif fonts are used for titles and subtitles on many sites and that can lend a nice effect on heavily sans serif pages. Serif fonts in traditional mediums such as newspapers, magazines, and books. That’s why serif fonts are typically seen as more classic and refined and are used by companies who want to exude these traits. Some of the most commonly used serif fonts include Times New Roman, Garamond, Baskerville, George and Courier New.
SAN SERIF
The main characteristics of serif fonts are their lack of serifs and use of simple, clean lines that are the same width throughout.The clean, crisp lines of sans serif fonts are the main reason many web designers prefer this style of font for on-screen use. In my Opening Sequence of a Thriller I will use the Sans Serif fonts are they are most suitable for films or media products as they are easier for the audience to read.
