  M-E-S Research  COLOUR Colour carries certain connotations which may add meaning to the scene i.e. red - danger black-death. With this the scene can give off a particular look, feel or mood as the colour create the atmosphere. Colours can also be used for dramatic effect such as triggering audience memories as they may have  specific memories or thoughts with that specific colour. Particular colours in a carefully chosen palette may be recurrent or contrasted throughout a film, in Thrillers they chose darker colour palettes as it creates more suspense and a eerie atmosphere. The colours can act as a trigger for certain emotion or link to other important moments in the narrative - can link from something in the beginning to the end. WHAT IS A THRILLER? A thriller is a genre of literature, play or film with an exciting plot. Typically involving crime or espionage. This type of genre's primary features are what induces strong feelings of excitement, anxiety, tension, suspense, fear, and other similar emotions in its readers or viewer. There are many sub-genres in thrillers. There should be a main 8 things that every thriller needs which help with the elements to be essential to the plot. Thrillers must also include a climax — there must be a plot twist or on rememberable scene to the film THRILLER Vs HORROR The first factor that differentiates both themes of the film is that a thriller is more psychological and requires more thought and explantation throughout the film as to what is going on, whereas Horror's are more bloody and gore with carless actions of violence e.g. slashers.  NARRATIVE  Narrative is the way information is delivered to the audience. The way in which a story is told in both fictional and non-fictional media texts. Traditionally, narrative structures followed a formula which was identified by the theorist Tzvetan Todorov. Todorov studied classic fairy tales and stories. He discovered that narratives moved forward in a chronological order with one action following after another. In other words, they have a clear beginning, middle and end. Todorov also suggested that the characters in the narrative would be changed in some way through the course of the story and that this would be evident by the resolution. Non-linear narratives and circular narratives have a structure that is not so straightforward. A non-linear narrative can move backwards and forwards in time usually using a flashback technique. This is used in the film 500 days (of Summer) which follows a relationship but we see flashforwards and flashbacks as the story progresses....
