 SMART TARGETS

  • I would like to accomplish that I finish all the tasks set and do extra work on top of that.
  • I want to gain the skills and knowledge that are necessary to create an opening to a Thriller so that it can be to the best of my abilities 
  • I will be able to create an opening sequence to a Thriller by the end of this coursework 
  • Over the next few weeks do research to show that I understand what aspects need to be within a Thriller e.g., the lighting, camera angles, costumes and M-E-S
  • I want to be able to learn what a thriller is and the certain characteristics that make it different from any other genre 
  • I would like to make sure that I have accomplished all the knowledge and research needed to get good grades. 
  • Make sure that I have the resousrces I need to learn the new skills on premier pro
  • If I do well in this coursework motivate me to maybe look into the qualifications and degrees I can do similar to this topic. 
  • Plan to do all the work set when given and not doing bare minimum try and do the maximum

 NARRATIVE  Narrative is the way information is delivered to the audience. The way in which a story is told in both fictional and non-fictional media texts. Traditionally, narrative structures followed a formula which was identified by the theorist Tzvetan Todorov. Todorov studied classic fairy tales and stories. He discovered that narratives moved forward in a chronological order with one action following after another. In other words, they have a clear beginning, middle and end. Todorov also suggested that the characters in the narrative would be changed in some way through the course of the story and that this would be evident by the resolution. Non-linear narratives and circular narratives have a structure that is not so straightforward. A non-linear narrative can move backwards and forwards in time usually using a flashback technique. This is used in the film 500 days (of Summer) which follows a relationship but we see flashforwards and flashbacks as the story progresses....

Title of the Film Script    C1 = Ted Phillips – Protagonist (main character) C2 = Autumn Hill – Dog walker (the victim) Extras – Family members    Scene 1    The setting – The forest, at night, low-key lighting, women walking her dog, there is no other people walking around meaning she is alone. Around 8:00 at night. Music playing – what C2 is listening to, diegetic sound   Autumn Hill will be wearing everyday clothes – leggings, trainers and hoodie – hair will be down. The women is in her early 20s   Opening shot - Medium Close-up Shot of dog’s front body walking towards the camera in a forest. (5 seconds)   The camera shot slowly tilts upwards to show the young girl walking around, with headphones in listening to music. Today, we started to play around with some more sounds, to match them up with the video. After we played around with music, we realised that in majority of the opening in thrillers (based on research), don't have music playing the whole time, so we tried to see what that looked like, using some diegetic rain sounds that we made, however, it did not look as good without other music, so we did a mixture and added in our thunder sounds and used music, that we found and developed to match the storyline of the opening. On garage Band, we started to create some of our own music, so that we were not copyrighting anyone and that the music was to our taste. The music involved violins and other instruments used in creepy music  we tried out many different sounds with different notes, to see which works the best.
