AUDIENCE RELFECTION

Image
Audience Research Reflection  Based on my research about different audiences and my survey I have gathered information such as different age groups prefer different thrillers and different genders would prefer different locations such as a man would rather see a thriller based in the city rather than the forest or any other locations. These results from my survey have helped changed my ideas slightly to help me reach the standards of the ideal age rating.  The results from the survey is below:  In this question I asked what age the participants of the survey are. The question ranges from 10-80+, however the results my data base is main focused around the ages 15-25, 41-60 and 71-80. This means I have wide variety of answers to help me with my audience research for the opening of my thriller.  Here we have peoples favourite thrillers(out of the options) and majority of people selected John Wick which is an Action Thriller the people who chose this answer are ma...

AUDIENCE RESEARCH

Image
Audience Research  Film Classification Film Classification is the process of how films give their age ratings of films and what contents they can include. It also helps advise families choose what is right for their children and what is not. The films released into cinemas are usually already watched by two members (Compliance Officers) of the BBFC (British Board of Film Classification), the Compliance Manager/Head of Compliance have to approve the age rating that the other member have made. If the Compliance officers have doubts about the film, it might be between two categories (different ages) or policy issues are involved - the Chief Executive, the President and Vice Presidents of the BBFC have to see the film - they may call for expert legal advice about the film as it may have potential harm. Things that the Compliance Officers look out for when watching the film is: Bad language, Dangerous Behaviour, Discrimination, Drugs, Horror, Nudity, Sex, violence or sexual viole...

REFLECTION

Reflection  The sub-genre that I am thinking of doing for my final project is a Horror Thriller as there is a more variety of objects or storylines that I could use as a Horror Thriller purpose is to bring the audience on the edge of their seats and scare them/confuse them. This links to my idea as I want to relate to a murdered getting away with killing somebody (or do they). I feel like this would be a good "storyline" as it can intrigue the audience to find out about what happens to the main character. The characteristic that I will include is to try and film in an ideal thriller location (a forest), the lighting would ideally be a low-key lighting - dark colours, a lot of black and a blue undertone on certain clips to help create amore suspenseful atmosphere and create tension. I will use a lot of close-ups on people faces or key movements to help the audience what I am trying to portray and help them understand who the main character would be. I will stick to some stereo...

DECONSTRUCTION.

Image
Deconstruction Hurtwood House Boogeyman Opening sequence (Student) The opening sequence shows a man trying to escape an underground room but as he goes back we see a man standing there shaking his head and tutting and he waves a knife infant of his body. This Thriller opening sequence matches the conventions of the Thriller genre as it has created suspense and anticipation as the aim is to make the audience alert and at edge of their seats in this case it is to why he has been kidnapped and to why he can't leave - even when he escapes. We see that the protagonist is in the mercy in the antagonist. There are loads of micro-elements used in this opening sequence to help create the tension, and to help portray the right tone over through to the audience. The lighting in the films very low-key to help contrast the shadows. This opening sequence ignores one of the stereotypes in this genre (Thriller), and which is that a man is being help hostage rather than a women be held captured and...

Reflection on Idea development

Reflection on Ideas After researching about different thrillers and different audience types. I changed my initial ideas to the following: The type of thriller, that my piece will be is a psychological thriller. It is psychological because there is a lot of suspense being build up. It is showing the more mental side of the story rather than the action and intense scene it is focusing more on the danger and suspenseful scenes. Another reason I am aware that it is a psychological thriller is that the protagonist has gotten themselves in a dangerous situation. The elements of mystery are being incorporated such as dissolving sense of reality shown by the antagonist, this can create feelings of fear or create trauma and terror emotions.  The basic plot of the Thriller is that a young women (in her 20's) is walking around the woods at dusk, and this man (similar age) is following her, without the girl knowing. She hears the twigs snap and starts to try and run away but he gets her...

MEDIA PRODUCTS THAT INFLUENCED ME

M-E-S Titanic Use of Mis-en Scene In Titanic there are mainly only two settings, the salvage ship and the Titanic Ship. Lighting in this film is key as it helps operate the different classes. Lighting is being emphasised on texture, distance, mood, season and time of day. In the beginning it is mainly low key lighting when people are treasure hunting under the sea in an submarine, the first thing we see if the lights from the submarine, they used to the spotlight of the submarine to try and find the remaining parts of the titanic, it conveys a sense of sadness as many people died from this disaster. When we first the two main characters Jack and Rose there is high key lighting as it is apart of the upper level on the ship with back then was for the upper-class, the high key lighting contrasts the lower level normal lighting which seems darker in comparison this is so that the audience can feel the extravagant of the upper level and also the simpleness of the lower level. The costumes i...

Title Sequence in Thrillers Saul Bass   Saul Bass was an American graphic designer and Oscar-winning filmmaker. Saul Bass is best-known for his motion-picture title sequences, film posters and corporate logos. He is known as the man who changed graphic design and opening sequences. As mentioned in video below he was well-know for his logos in adverts, it was only until the mid 1950s he started doing the opening titles for films, he was working on the logos for the man with the golden arm when he realised he waned to focus on the titles.  He has created so many famous opening sequences such as Hitchcock's Psycho and Vertigo. Bass went on to create dozens of iconic film posters and title credits. His final projects before his death in 1996 were credits for four Martin Scorsese films: Goodfellas (1990), Cape Fear (1991), The Age of Innocence and Casino. During Bass's 40 year career, he worked with/for some of the best directors in Hollywood including Hitchcock, Kubrick. Prem...

SMART TARGETS FOR RESEARCH

SMART TARGETS I would like to accomplish that I finish all the tasks set and do extra work on top of that. THRILLERS THAT INFLUENCED ME

Mise-En-Scene Escape Room  Escape Room's use of Mise-en Scene is important to the film, as every room as some relation to the players. In the first scene we see a bright red room, this encodes danger and heat as we can see the characters struggling to move as they are so hot. Everything in the room relates to what will happen, i.e., there is a book called 451 Fahrenheit, which indicates how hot the room will get. This room relates to the blonde woman who is called Amanda as she was in the army and there was a fire. The way they get out of the rooms by using the water cups, and placing them on the "coasters," this goes back to my point about how everything in the room can help them leave, they could've used the books on the shelf to hold the button coasters down. The Mise-en scene in this film is very creative. It has inspired me for my Thriller work as it has been set in a location that loads of people go to, this is why there is so much suspense built within the Mise...
